How innovative are you? This question I wanted to ask first. The question is justified, but not a headline. Many of you are interested in Lean Construction and the Last Planner System developed by Glenn Ballard and Greg Howell in the 80s. On the basis and as a further development, Alan Mossman has published the book “Last Planner® 5 + 1 crucial & collaborative conversions for predictable design & construction delivery ” in December 2015. The German translation was written in June 2016 by Claus Nesensohn. Now it is time to switch to the digital variant. Its time for a change.
Some of you have already been able to gather project experience with the methodology. You use a board with adhesive labels or a plug-in board. But do you have the courage to switch to a digital solution? I think so. But it comes to the right entry point. We have found this suitable entry point and prepared it for you.
A project begins with the collaborative planning as part of a major meeting. If you succeed, you will also make a program compression in this meeting. As a result, you have a large wall in front of you, on which are placed many stickers. What is the project leader doing next? I would do two things at this point. First, I would take as many photos as necessary to document the precious work. But would this be enough for me as a project manager? No. I think of my later tasks. One of my tasks is to document and analyze the project and project progress. And for the follow-up I need various charts to present the project development to the team members and the management. So, I’ll secondly capture all the stickers in an Excel spreadsheet. So, I have a digital list that I can write down and with which I can create faster charts. The work is laborious, and it weighs exclusively on my shoulders.
This is the ideal entry point for digital beginners! Each team member is responsible for his cards. With an intelligent combination of a digital planning board and a process board, all tasks go through the necessary project steps and everyone can participate online. The project is updated daily and checked daily. The charts are automatically created and continued …
- You can use this digital methodology on BIM planning and construction work!
- With this digital methodology you can work together independently of the location!
- With this digital methodology you will be even more productive and leaner!
If you do not believe there is such a software, just send me your Excel spreadsheet. I have already imported interesting projects this way. The effort would be a little hard to create hundreds of cards manually.
Most you know me “digital”. Personally, you can meet me at the end of September at the Intergeo 2017 in Berlin. Here we can show you examples live.
You will find us at the booth of Techdata from 26. – 28.09.2017 in Hall 2.1, booth C2.050. Make an appointment for a personal meeting via sales@lean4team. We would be glad to provide you with a free daytime ticket for you.
Multi-day tasks can be displayed in this way. The above illustration has only been created based on the comparison.
As long as the task is only “planned” and not “in work”, it can still be adjusted ……
….. or be move.
